FOIA Request to Vance County regarding vendor payment register on February 1, 2026.
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Vance County by NE Piedmont News, a media organization dedicated to providing thorough and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. The request seeks access to the county’s vendor payment register for the preceding calendar month. This includes details such as the names of vendors paid by the county, dates and amounts of payments, and descriptions of goods or services purchased.
The request emphasizes that it is intended for gathering information of public interest for dissemination to the public. It specifically requests records that currently exist and does not ask for the creation of new documents. In case any part of this request is denied or withheld, NE Piedmont News has asked for a specific statutory basis for denial and requests all reasonably segregable portions of the records be released.
The requester has also indicated a preference for receiving these records in electronic format if available. Additionally, they have requested a fee waiver citing their role as a member of the media responsible for holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
NE Piedmont News is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. More information about this coalition can be found at https://stopsecrecy.org/about/.
Of 210 senior students taking the science portion of the ACT in Vance County school districts, 16 (7.6%) were considered ready for college in the 2022-23 school year.
