The Granville Health System Foundation announced on April 7 that it is now accepting applications for the 2026 Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship Program. The deadline to submit completed scholarship application packets is May 4 at 5:00 p.m., and further details are available at www.ghshospital.org/ghs-foundation.
The scholarship program aims to support students pursuing careers in health care, with the goal of strengthening the future healthcare workforce in Granville County and surrounding communities. The foundation has increased its awards this year to assist more students entering health-related fields.
According to the announcement, recipients will be selected by the end of May using established criteria. The first-place winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship, while second and third-place recipients will each receive $1,000 scholarships. These funds are paid toward tuition in August upon verification of acceptance into an approved program. While these are one-time scholarships, individuals may reapply each year they remain enrolled in school.
The Sam Perry Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 by the Granville Health System Board of Trustees and the GHS Foundation Board of Directors to honor Sam Perry, a physician assistant known for his specialized medical care and respect within Granville Health System.
Eligible applicants must be residents of Granville County who have been accepted into a two-year or four-year Allied Health program at an accredited institution with plans to pursue a career in healthcare. Qualifying programs include clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiological science, pharmacy, nursing (RN, BSN, ADN), LPN training, dentistry and related fields such as physician assistant or nurse practitioner studies.
By supporting local students who wish to work in healthcare professions—including those who may eventually serve patients within their own community—the foundation says it hopes to build a stronger rural healthcare workforce.
