Maria Parham Franklin and the MPF Behavioral Health team are organizing events to recognize National Mental Health Awareness Month in May. The initiative aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support community needs. The hospital will host “Stomp the Stigma” events to encourage individuals to seek help for mental health issues.
The “Stomp the Stigma” event is scheduled for Saturday, May 31, 2025. It includes three races designed to promote awareness and wellness:
– A 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00 a.m., beginning and ending at Maria Parham Franklin, passing through downtown Louisburg. This race is open to all skill levels.
– A 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:30 a.m., suitable for families and participants of all ages.
– A Kids’ Dash starts at 10:00 a.m. on hospital grounds, allowing children to participate in raising mental health awareness.
Participants will receive t-shirts and swag bags if registered two weeks prior. Medals will be awarded in the 5K race for top male and female finishers, as well as for the first 100 finishers.
Registration is available online at runsignup.com/Race/NC/Louisburg/StompTheStigmaK.
“We are excited to host these events as part of our ongoing commitment to raising awareness about mental health and encouraging people to prioritize their well-being,” said Bert Beard, CEO of Maria Parham Health. “Stigma around mental health can prevent people from seeking the help they need, and our goal is to help change that through these fun and meaningful events.”
Maria Parham Franklin encourages community involvement through participation or volunteering. The goal is to end stigma around mental health by normalizing seeking help.
