Maria Parham Franklin has announced the commencement of a renovation project aimed at transforming its Emergency Department (ED), with construction scheduled to start on July 21, 2025. The focus is on enhancing care for individuals facing behavioral health challenges.

The renovation will create designated areas within the ED to meet the unique needs of behavioral and mental health patients, aiming to provide a safer and more supportive environment for both patients and care team members. This initiative is also intended to improve overall hospital efficiency while fostering a healthier and more secure environment for patients and visitors.

Hospital operations will remain unaffected during the renovation. The main entrance, registration, and entry for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will not be impacted. Signage will be available in front of the hospital for additional guidance.

In March, Maria Parham Health in Henderson began the first phase of renovations with a similar focus on behavioral health needs. With phase one nearing completion, phase two is set to begin soon at Maria Parham Franklin, expected to take approximately two months.

This project is funded through allocations made to Maria Parham Health in October 2023 as part of a collaborative effort involving the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville Vance Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. The funding reflects the community’s commitment to improving mental health and substance abuse treatment services in the region.

“We are thrilled to begin this transformative project that will improve the quality of care for some of our most vulnerable community members,” said Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer of Maria Parham Health. “The renovation will allow us to provide specialized spaces for individuals in behavioral health crises, ultimately improving the care of all our patients. This investment is an important step toward better meeting the needs of our community.”

Alongside the ED renovation, construction for Maria Parham Franklin’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) has commenced to further support behavioral health challenges within the community. The IOP offers evidence-based care suitable for those who have completed higher levels of care or need more therapeutic benefits than traditional therapy or medication management alone. It may be recommended by a physician after evaluating a patient’s comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment goals, and recovery needs. Construction is expected to finish by September 2025.

Maria Parham Health encourages public awareness regarding renovation progress through updates on their official Facebook page and local news outlets.

Maria Parham Health remains committed to maintaining high standards of care, safety, and patient satisfaction throughout this significant renovation process.
