Maria Parham Franklin is set to begin a renovation project aimed at transforming its Emergency Department (ED) on July 21, 2025. The renovation focuses on improving care for individuals with behavioral health challenges by creating designated areas within the ED tailored to their needs. This initiative aims to provide a safer and more supportive environment for patients and care team members while enhancing overall hospital efficiency.
Hospital operations will remain unaffected during the renovation, with main entrance, registration, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) entry unchanged. Signage will be placed in front of the hospital for guidance.
Earlier this year, Maria Parham Health in Henderson began the first phase of renovations focusing on behavioral health needs. With phase one nearing completion, phase two is set to start soon at Maria Parham Franklin and is expected to take about two months.
The project is funded through an allocation received by Maria Parham Health in October 2023 as part of a collaboration between the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville Vance Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. This funding highlights the community’s commitment to enhancing mental health and substance abuse treatment services in the region.
“We are thrilled to begin this transformative project that will improve the quality of care for some of our most vulnerable community members,” said Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer of Maria Parham Health. “The renovation will allow us to provide specialized spaces for individuals in behavioral health crises, ultimately improving the care of all our patients. This investment is an important step toward better meeting the needs of our community.”
In addition to renovating the Emergency Department, construction has also begun on Maria Parham Franklin’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). The IOP offers evidence-based care suitable for those who have recently completed higher-level care or need more therapeutic benefit than traditional therapy or medication management alone. A physician may recommend IOP after evaluating a patient’s comprehensive mental health assessment. Construction is expected to finish by September 2025.
Maria Parham Health encourages public engagement with updates on renovation progress available via its official Facebook page and local news outlets.
Maria Parham Health remains dedicated to maintaining high standards of care, safety, and patient satisfaction throughout this renovation process.
