Maria Parham Health will host a community event to mark the reopening of its Radiation Oncology Department on October 9, 2025. The event is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Maria Parham Cancer Center in Henderson, North Carolina.
The department has undergone several months of renovation and equipment upgrades. A key addition is a new linear accelerator (LINAC), which delivers external beam radiation therapy with improved precision. The LINAC uses high-frequency electromagnetic fields to generate high-energy beams that target cancerous tumors while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue. It also features advanced imaging capabilities and can rotate around patients for more accurate treatment.
With this technology, Maria Parham Health can now offer stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). This treatment delivers higher doses of radiation over fewer sessions—typically between one and five—compared to conventional methods that may require weeks of daily visits. SBRT’s advanced targeting helps reduce damage to nearby healthy tissue.
The reopening event will allow guests to tour the renovated Radiation Oncology Suite, meet Dr. Ryan Fecteau, MD, PhD—the center’s new Radiation Oncologist—and interact with staff from the Cancer Center team. Light refreshments will be served.
“We are incredibly proud to offer this advanced technology to our patients and to continue raising the bar for cancer care in our region,” said Kimberly Smith, Director or The Cancer Center at Maria Parham Health. “This event is not only a celebration of innovation but of our ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality care close to home.”
