The North Carolina House of Representatives approved funds for the Department of Transportation earlier this month.
Representatives have been pushing mini budgets along to continue funding state programs while legislators continue to negotiate a state budget.
The infrastructure funding bill, House Bill 100 DOT Budget for 2019-2021, received bi-partisan support and will be sent to the governor to be signed into law. The bill addresses funding for more than $8 billion in the Highway Trust Funds, and also includes spending for transportation capital, repairs and renovations.
The bill provides $12 million in general airport funding and $25 million to improve rail infrastructure.
Rep. Frank Iller (R-Brunswick) says the bill will ensure that the Department of Transportation can continue to operate and support North Carolina’s rapid population growth. Officials hope the money can be used to better the infrastructure in North Carolina and support economic growth.
