Town of Stem issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.
The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for some winter weather across NC Saturday night through Sunday. NWS continues to emphasize that we are still a few days out and that changes to forecast details are inevitable.
A wintry mix of precipitation will be ongoing across much of the state by early Sunday morning (overnight hours). Precipitation types will be mostly snow (heavy at times) along and north of the I-85 corridor, and a mix of freezing rain and sleet between I-85 and I-95. Snow is expected to transition to sleet/freezing rain early Sunday afternoon and begin to lift north and out of the state beginning during the late-afternoon Sunday, quickly winding down Sunday evening. Travel impacts are expected Sunday into Monday morning.
