City of Creedmoor issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.

Granville County Crime Stoppers hosted their fourth annual banquet on October 22, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Creedmoor. Personnel from all Granville County law enforcement agencies including the Creedmoor, Oxford, Stem, and Stovall Police Departments, Granville County Sheriff’s Department, and Butner Public Safety were honored by Granville County Crime Stoppers for their commitment and dedication to serving and protecting the citizens and visitors to Granville County.

Creedmoor Police Chief Keith King recognized Officer Ben Coleman as the Creedmoor Crime Stopper of the Year. When asked why Officer Coleman was nominated for this honor, Chief King stated “Each year we have a very difficult time deciding which officer to put forward for this honor, because we are privileged to have such a fantastic team. Officer Coleman comes to work each and every day with one mission: Make our streets safer. Not only does his hard work stop crime, it also saves lives.”

The Crime Stoppers program brings together members of the community, media, law enforcement, and businesses to work together to solve crimes. Citizens are able to provide anonymous tips, with the potential of a cash reward up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.

Chief King reflected on the importance of Crime Stoppers to the work of the Creedmoor Police Department by saying, “it’s invaluable to our team to have the support of the community, and organizations like Granville County Crime Stoppers help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the people we serve and protect. We are grateful for their support, and look forward to this banquet every year.”
