City of Creedmoor issued the following announcement on July 7.
2020 Creedmoor Music Festival Cancelled Due to COVID-19
The City of Creedmoor regrets to announce that due to unprecedented health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Creedmoor Music Festival has been cancelled. City staff and the Board of Commissioners waited as late as possible in the planning process to make this decision. Any further delays would have triggered full payment to secure production equipment, and other apparatus necessary to hold this event.
The amount of joy that this annual tradition brings to our community could not be outweighed by the potentially dangerous impacts of holding a large festival that draws in thousands of visitors from around the region in the midst of a local, national, and global pandemic. Current trends of COVID-19 transmission locally and nationally give no indication that conditions will be safe enough to hold an event of this scale by September. The Creedmoor Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to cancel this year’s event based on a recommendation from the Music Festival Planning Committee, and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that placed an event of this scale in the “highest-risk” category to spread COVID-19. The Music Festival was originally scheduled for September 19, 2020.
City staff has begun working with all registered street vendors to issue full refunds, which will be processed in the next 10-14 business days.
The City of Creedmoor does not make this announcement lightly, and we understand how much those that live and visit our community look forward to the Music Festival each year. Countless hours go in to planning and executing this event for the last twenty-eight years, and we remain committed to making sure the next Music Festival is our best ever.
Mark your calendars for September 18, 2021 where we hope to gather as a community to celebrate Creedmoor, music, and all the things that tie us together.
