Vance County Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 9.
Citizens of Vance County. Although several counties around us like Warren and Franklin have had the burn ban lifted, Vance County is still under the state mandated burn ban. The insignificant amount of rain we had last night was not enough to put the needed amount of moisture in the vegetative fuel load that’s out there. Between the small amount of rain, the low relative humidity and the breeze/wind, that moisture has evaporated and has put us right back where we were before the rain. As for when the ban will be lifted?….well that question has no definitive date….only when we get enough rain fall. So until that time please spread the word that we are still under the state mandated burn ban. Thank you and may you all be safe.
