TOWN OF BUTNER: Resolution Awarding Retiring BPS Lieutenant Derrick Alston

Retirement

Town of Butner issued the following announcement on Apr. 25.

WHEREAS, NCGS § 20-187.2 provides that a retiring member of a law enforcement agency may receive, at the time of his retirement, the badge worn or carried by such retiring officer during his service with Butner Public Safety; and 

WHEREAS, NCGS § 20-187.2 further provides that the governing body of a municipal law enforcement agency may, in its discretion, award the retiring member the service sidearm of such retiring member upon his securing a permit as required by NCGS 14-402 et. seq.; and 

WHEREAS, NCGS § 160A-294.1 provides that a retiring firefighter of a municipal fire department may receive, at the time of his retirement, the fire helmet worn or carried by such retiring firefighter during his service with Butner Public Safety; and 

WHEREAS, Derrick L. Alston will be retiring on April 29, 2022, after twenty-two years, seven months, twenty-one days of service with Butner Public Safety, and the Town of Butner wishes to honor and thank Lt. Alston for his service to the Butner Public Safety Department by awarding to him his badge, service sidearm, and fire helmet. 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF BUTNER THAT, in consideration of the dedicated service provided to the Town of Butner by Derrick L. Alston and upon his securing a permit as required by NCGS § 14-402, Lt. Alston is to be awarded to him, the badge, sidearm, and fire helmet assigned to him at the time of his retirement as Public Safety Officer for a nominal fee of one dollar
