Maria Parham Health has announced a $5 million renovation project for its Emergency Department, scheduled to start on March 3, 2025. The renovation aims to enhance the hospital's capacity to deliver quality care, particularly for patients dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues.

The funding was provided to the Granville-Vance Public Health Department in October 2023 through collaboration with several governmental bodies, including the Vance County District Attorney’s Office, Granville-Vance County Public Health, the Vance County Board of Commissioners, and the North Carolina General Assembly. These entities have shown a commitment to improving mental health and substance abuse treatment outcomes in Vance and Franklin counties.

The renovation will introduce designated spaces within the Emergency Department specifically designed for behavioral health and mental health patients. This new layout is expected to create safer environments for individuals, staff, and visitors while increasing efficiency in patient care.

Phase One of the renovation will commence on March 3, 2025. During this phase, which is expected to last 16 weeks, the front half of the Emergency Department will be temporarily closed. Patients arriving by their own means will be directed to use the main entrance for registration and triage. Entry for Emergency Medical Services will remain unchanged.

"We are excited to begin this critical renovation that will allow us to enhance patient care and improve outcomes for some of our most vulnerable community members," said Bert Beard, Chief Executive Officer at Maria Parham Health. "The new spaces will allow us to provide a unique care environment for those facing behavioral health crises."

Maria Parham Health encourages the public to stay informed about construction developments through their official Facebook page and local news outlets. The hospital remains committed to delivering excellent care while maintaining safety standards during this significant project.
